Why am I losing my hair?
Hair on the scalp are genetically programmed to be:
(A) Sensitive to the male hormone Dihyrdotestostrone (DHT) or (B) Resistant to DHT.
Those hair which are sensitive to DHT (for which heredity is the major determinant) and those which are affected by certain skin diseases, cause the hair follicle to wither away and die.
Those hair which are resistant to DHT(usually the sides and back of the head) continue to grow throughout life.

|
How is the hair transplant procedure done?
Hair transplantation is a minor outpatient procedure because it only involves the skin on the head and takes about six hours.
After anesthesia is administered to the back of your scalp, the surgeon will remove a narrow strip of skin. The strip is then cut into "follicular units" which consist of 1, 2 or 3 hair. This is done by a team of four or more highly trained technicians. These follicular units are then transplanted into tiny incisions on the front and top of your scalp. Each graft is skillfully placed in proper position and angle so that they grow to form a natural hairline.
During your procedure you may read a book, or choose to read a magazine, listen to music, watch a movie or take a nap; while our staff is busy preparing and transplanting your new hairline.

|
When will I see the growth of hair?
The hair will begin to grow in 8-12 weeks and you will see full results in 12-15months.
|
Does age make a difference in hair transplantation outcomes?
Usually not. The hair on the back of you head are genetically programmed to grow for a lifetime. A good supply is generally available for transplant purposes in nearly all men and women. There is no magical age where hair loss starts or stops. An earlier start will allow you to avoid the "BALDING" state and to make sure you look natural along the way. Further hair can be added on if you wish in a second procedure.
|
Are there any risks involved?
They are rare, and usually minor in nature such as wound infection, for which you will be taking an antibiotic. A thorough history and physical examination will be undertaken and the risk of allergic reactions will be minimized. A complete blood test will also be conducted to detect any hidden problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or hepatitis.
|
How can I prevent further hair loss?
By using Minoxidil and Propecia. While Rogaine and Propecia have been proven to keep the hair you have they will not re-grow hair from lost follicles. Their greatest benefit seems to be in slowing down hair loss. Rogaine and Propecia can be a part of a very effective hair restoration plan. Propecia is prescribed for all our male patients.

No. The scalp is a very elastic and highly vascular zed area. Hence it comes together nicely when sutured and heal very well.

The result is a thin line hidden under the hair and is not noticeable.
